Verrucas

Verrucas are caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Most will clear on their own, but stubborn verrucas can be treated with swift microwave therapy, cryotherapy or using strong acids which cannot be purchased over the counter.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is used where liquid nitrogen is applied to the verruca or wart to freeze & destroy the affected cells trying to create an immune system response.

£55 per treatment

Swift Microwave Treatment

Swift Microwave treatment is a breakthrough microwave treatment used for stubborn warts & verrucas.

SWIFT is a new treatment used to treat stubborn skin lesions such as warts and verruca’s.

It works by delivering microwave energy through a probe to the lesion heating up the affected tissues then stimulating the healing cascade.

It is effective on stubborn warts which have failed to respond to cryo or acid treatments.

Both of these treatments must be carried out by a professional.

Treatment cost £135 per visit.
It is advised to try three treatments each spaced 4 weeks apart.

Acids can also be used to treat verrucas.

A podiatrist will commonly use acids higher concentrations than those purchased over the counter. This will break down keratin in the skin destroying the verruca tissue in the process.

Verrutop

Verrutop is a painless treatment suitable for anyone over he age of 6 years. Treatments are usually 14 days apart & this can be applied for unto 6 times
Avoca wart is also painless & suitable for young children

Dry needling

This is an alternative to cryo or swift treatment used to treat stubborn verrucae.
The area is injected with a local anaesthetic. When fully numb, a sterile needle is used to cause localised trauma to the verruca which disrupts the papilli in the verruca, implanting the virus into the dermal layer of the skin to allow the body to stimulate its own immune response to  clear the virus.

Podiatry / Chiropody difference?

There is no difference really.

The word Podiatrist was adopted in the 1993 and has been used worldwide for much longer.

A Podiatrist will treat lower limb or common foot problems such as corns, calluses, verrucas, ingrown toe nails as well as correcting the position of the foot using orthotics/ insoles which will alleviate pain and improve gait.
